Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews now let you choose Preferred Sources — the publications whose reporting you trust, which then get surfaced more prominently in AI answers, with a badge next to their links. It is a reader setting, not a ranking hack: Google is explicit that this reflects what you want to see more of.
If you find this show useful, adding boringlyeffective.com as a Preferred Source takes about twenty seconds:
- Open google.com and run any search (or open AI Mode from the Search box).
- Open the Personalise / Preferred Sources panel — the icon at the top right of the results page, or under Search Labs.
- Search for Boringly Effective and add it. That's it — future episodes and guides will be surfaced to you more directly.
Why it matters: AI answers increasingly mediate how people find evidence about marketing. Preferred Sources is the one lever that lets readers — not algorithms alone — decide which sources appear there. If the evidence-based approach on this show is the one you'd rather see quoted, this is the smallest possible way to say so.
No sign-up, no cost, adjustable any time in the same panel.
